My first post on this blog was in Ramadan and it was like 10 posts ago...I really feel like only 3 months got over and not a year. Anyways with that said...Ramadan Mubarak to all my lovely readers (if there are any at present).
This is my first Ramadan in my new house and it feels so different. I hope I get adjusted to it because every now and then I become nostalgic thinking about my old house where Ramadan had that feeling...that comforting feeling that words can't describe. It's sad that we don't hear the Azaan here since the microphones in the masjids have their volumes low...I don't know why!
I wrote my TOEFL iBT exam yesterday. It was not awesome, truth be said. But like many of my friends said, I'll just hope and pray that my results turn out great. Since today was the first day of Ramadan I haven't fully settled into the Ramadan mode but In sha Allah I will totally embrace this blessed month. A lot of people have been preparing for this month from weeks...packing on grocery essentials, getting done with the eid shopping, paying bills and what not.
Well some of us haven't. Like me :3 I always seem to be on the "later" side. Yeah I delay stuff but I do it at some point....mostly. Here are some of the information I've gathered for you. Hope it helps.
Now, one of the lovely ladies from Fash Squad Qatar , Kellie Silva, posted some of her Ramadan tips to stay healthy and fresh that I found to be helpful.
Also, one of Qatar's news website, Doha News has featured the Ramadan schedule for most of the shopping malls, supermarkets, hospitals and other public places. You can check out the guide here Ramadan opening hours .
I also found some useful information on tumblr that I would like to share.
I think the above information is really simple and if you want to keep it as a reminder, it would do good to keep a printed copy with you for reference.
Ramadan is a blessed month. It's not just about fasting, reading the Quran and praying. It has more depth to it. It's about purifying one's soul, of changing one's habits ,with the intention of emerging as a transformed and a positive person, of abstaining from all things bad and indulging in all things good.
Lastly, here is some Ramadan advice from my side.
1. Don't drink tea during sahoor. I read this in a health magazine and don't see this being mentioned often anywhere else. Apparently, having tea during sahoor drains out the essential minerals when you urinate. This is not a probably healthy choice because you need those minerals to go though the day while you are fasting.
2. Cut down on the oily food. I know a lot of us have made a tradition to include oily delicacies in iftar, but it only deteriorates your health. Even if you ant to eat it, then go low on the proportions and include fruits in your iftar diet. Eat only as much as you can. Don't stuff yourself because you skipped breakfast and lunch.
In short, don't be like the guy below. And if you are, make up your mind to change the habit for your good :)
That's it for the food advice from my side.
3. Keep a goal in your mind to read the Quran daily as this is the blessed month that the Quran was send down on this month. Here is some pretty good advice I found on facebook shared by Mohammed Zeyara.
"Please remember, do not rush in reading the Quran just to say “I finished reading the Quran in Ramadan 10 times.” This is a very very common bad habit with some Muslims. The whole point of “the month of the Quran” is to comprehend and enjoy the beautiful words of Allah. Not to rush through them as if someone is running after you. If you do not understand Arabic, try to read from a Quran with the side translation. Read the verse, then read the translation. If you can not read Arabic, you are getting more reward than everyone else for trying! So this month you should focus on developing your Arabic reading skills.
This month you have one best friend and one best friend only; the Quran.
May Allah bless you all. And May Allah accept all our work in this Ramadan."
Hope this post gets you all geared up for this month. Ramadan Mubarak once again.
