My 12th grade final exams ended this March which means I am totally jobless sitting at home. Yep that's right...I don't go out or hang around with my friends because most of them are already moving abroad as they have to write their college entrance exams. And here I am totally clueless about my future. My holidays so far included a lot of sleeping, chatting on facebook with other bored friends :P , watching Korean dramas (I'll write a separate post on that later) , cooking trials and reading blogs. But yesterday I got to do something other than the above and I am glad I did, thanks to my sister's friend.
Well, so the book my sister borrowed from her friend is "Then I met my sister" by Christine Hurley Deriso .
The story is about how a teenager, Summer stumbles upon her dead sister Shannon's journal on her birthday. The initial impression that she has about her sister as she is always compared to her, is wiped off as she is introduced to a completely different person. As she starts to read it , she discovers that there are several painful secrets in her family that she has not been told about. Moreover she finds out that the "perfect" elder sister whom everybody rants about has more depth to her character. The journal basically holds the last few months of Shannon's life and the events that took place then. Summer who never met her sister (she was born after Shannon died) meets her and gets to know her through the journal. The story is very emotional and includes a bit of drama, romance and mystery. Little by little Summer unfolds the truth about her sister's life, her family and herself.
Here is the summary of the story as printed at the back cover of the book-
"It's not exactly easy living in a shrine to your dead sister. Since birth, I've known that everyone loved Shannon. She was perfect--beautiful, smart, talented. And me? Not so much. My parents always expected me to live up to her greatness. But I could never measure up to her, so why even try?
This summer, I've started reading the journal Shannon kept just before she died . . . and suddenly nothing is what I thought it was. The more secrets I learn about Shannon and our family, the more everything changes. And as it turns out, facing the truth is no cakewalk, either."

I really enjoyed the book and finished reading it in just one night (sometimes I think I am very smart).
If you love this type of young adult novel , then I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed on reading it .
If you read it, let me know what you think about it in the comments section. And if you have any book suggestions of the same genre then let me know too :)
Have a nice day.
