"The time is over, so girls we will meet after the break. Assalamu'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuhu", said the math professor.
"Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuhu", we replied in chorus.
I gave a deep sigh of relief. My last class before the spring break was finally over. There was still an hour left before I could board the bus. My friend and I left for the cafeteria and we chatted for about an hour and when it was almost time, we bid our goodbyes and left in opposite directions. In the bus, I was heavy lidded and kept swaying back and forth under the cold A/C air. I was dropped first and ran home excitedly. At last I could do things that were pending for a long time. Blogging was one of them.
So here I am, sitting bored in a farm, 30 kilometres away from home, exactly a day later, wildly typing away in my iPhone. Yes folks, my spring break has just started. It's only a week long but I intend to make the most of it. A lot has happened in the past few months since I started university. Education though overall positive, is a very complicated process. It is something very powerful, almost impossible to explain in words. People have their own way of expressing it. However, I believe most university students will agree that it's something that puts a student's character to test; developing patience becomes highly essential. Now that is something that I absolutely lack and will take a long time to develop. Ironically, I am having a hard time in my favourite subject, biology. Turns out university is not like high school.
The transition from school to university has its pros and cons. I found the orientation day for freshmen rather boring but in the second week we had an event for freshmen that was held by academic advisors and it was more fun than the orientation day. We played games and had fun although our team didn't win. Food (of course! ) and welcoming goodies made the event even more better. We also had fun during the one week of cultural village at the uni.

I did not have much problem adjusting to the transition (of course after 2 or 3 awkward incidents). I have just come to know that university starts with freshmen doing quite a lot of awkward but amusing stuff. Well, let us say we all learn from experience. Comment below if you want to read about my awkward freshman start and do's and don'ts for freshmen. Back to the topic, one problem that I am facing is that a majority of the students are Arabic speaking. Though I do not speak Arabic, I do understand fifty percent of the language. Looking at the brighter side, the "wanna be polyglot" in me has been woken and wants to master Arabic. I am a bit doubtful as to whether I will accomplish this but let's give it a try...
As for food, let us say freshmen 15 is not something I have to worry about (insert sunglasses emoji). I have started to walk more now that I am in uni (that's equal to exercise ya know. Just sayin'). At school, most of my classes were in the same classroom. Every facility that I needed to access was about 5 minutes away from my classroom, but in university, my classes are in different buildings. Some of the facilities are so far that I need to take a bus to get there. Strangely, in university, I don't eat much. Sometimes I forget I am hungry and end up attending classes on an empty stomach. I live mostly on processed and junk foods. There is a gym but I haven't got time to register for it yet. I do not think I will get the time this semester as I am still lagging in biology and it is very hectic, so I have a lot to work on and study.
I do not think I have talked about my major yet. My major of interest is Bio-medical science, but in order to get selected, there are a few pre-requisites. Right now I am a general science major in the College of Science and I need to pass this semester with a grade C or above with 12 credit hours to get selected in Bio-medical science. I am taking Chemistry 101, Biology 101, English 1 and Pre-calculus this semester. Everything is okay except for Biology, but In sha Allah I'll cope with it.
I am having time management and concentration issues in university and I am trying to fix it. If the stuff that I do works out, I will share it here because I know that an overwhelmingly large amount of students face these issues. Trust me guys, I know. It's like a deep dark hole with no way out. *sniff sniff*
As for the weather, though we keep saying spring, it is more like summer in Qatar. It is burning hot here; it is also very dusty outside.
Back to blogging concerns, last weekend I did a cool DIY and would like to share it with y'all. The next post will probably be the DIY. Also, I haven't forgotten about the pending book reviews. Since it is hot and dry outside, it is the perfect weather for trying out refreshing recipes. I am trying out new ones and I might share them on here.
That's it for now. Have a nice weekend!
